In Memoriam

As with all breast cancer teams, our real race is the race against breast cancer. Looming over us is the threat of losing our beloved team-mates and friends to this dreaded disease. When a team-mate passes on, there is nothing to describe the void the team feels. When a member of Hope Afloat Canada passes away, we acknowledge them by placing a plaque with their name on the back of our drummer’s seat.

We consider these fallen members to be our guardian angels and we have chosen the majestic bald eagle as our symbol of these ladies. When we are paddling and see a bald eagle soaring the skies, we feel that the spirits of these ladies are keeping watch over us helping to keep our team safe.
